Background:
Dr. David Kluth has broad administrative and management experience within the Concordia University System and higher education. After graduating from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, he served in parish ministry for 14 years in Minnesota. In addition to being a senior pastor in a large congregation in the Twin Cities, he chaired the District Communications Committee for a decade and was editor of the District’s monthly magazine. While in Minnesota he started a Lutheran elementary school, several early childhood programs and was instrumental in establishing Martin Luther High School in Northrop.
On a national level, Dr. Kluth served 11 years on the Board for Communication Services for The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, chairing the group for 3 years. He also was part of the team that founded the Concordia University Education Network (CUEnet) which was designed to share electronic resources between colleges and high schools. As part of that effort he directed a live satellite program on Dish Network for healthcare professionals.
Dr. Kluth came to Concordia University Texas in 1990 to help develop the school’s television program and broadcast efforts. He taught media law, communication technology and video production. He became vice president for University Services in 1996 and was responsible for Concordia’s computer system (academic and administrative), facilities management, campus police, website and scheduling and events. In 2005 he was asked to head the school’s relocation effort which led to Concordia moving from its original downtown campus to a new campus built in northwest Austin. That project was completed on time in 2008 and under budget. He joined the Concordia Portland faculty in the summer of 2013 in the role of Dean of the College of Theology, Arts & Sciences.
