High School Program
High school should help prepare students for what comes next—but getting there doesn't have to look the same for everyone.
At Metro East Web Academy, students in grades 9–12 have the flexibility to build their education around their lives while receiving the structure, guidance, and support they need to make progress. Our online learning environment gives students more individual control over when and where they learn, without asking them to navigate high school on their own. We believe students deserve an environment where they feel safe, respected, supported, and capable of success.
Whether your student is looking for a different learning environment, needs greater flexibility during the school day, or wants a fresh start, MEWA offers another path toward graduation and beyond.
Flexible, Supported Learning
Each week, students participate in at least one live, virtual lesson per subject, connecting with teachers and classmates in real time. Students complete daily assignments independently outside of those live lessons, giving them flexibility in how they manage their schoolwork.
That flexibility can make a meaningful difference for students with jobs, family responsibilities, activities, or other commitments during traditional school hours. It can also provide a more comfortable learning environment for students who haven't found success in a traditional classroom.
Flexibility doesn't mean students are on their own. Teachers provide guidance and regular support, while virtual and on-campus Support Labs are available Monday through Thursday from 12–2 p.m. for students who need additional help with assignments or coursework.
Support for the whole student
Success in high school is about more than completing assignments and earning credits. Students are also developing the organizational, interpersonal, and practical skills they'll need after graduation.
Every MEWA student in grades 6–12 participates in a weekly MEWA Success class. Students learn practical life skills, organization, career readiness, and social-emotional skills, with lessons and support from our school counselors.
Our Student Success Team provides another important layer of support. Each grade level has a dedicated team member whose primary focus is connecting with students and helping them stay engaged in their education. When a student is struggling or needs one-on-one guidance, a Student Success team member may meet with them regularly to provide additional academic assistance, help them work through challenges, or simply serve as a trusted point of connection.
We believe students are more likely to succeed when they know someone is in their corner.
High school is also a time to explore interests, build relationships, and discover what comes next. Students can choose from a variety of electives and participate in clubs and activities that allow them to connect with others who share their interests.
MEWA students can participate in Music Producers Club, Social Club, Book Club, Gender, Sexuality & Allies Club, and Leadership Club, among other opportunities. Students also have opportunities to attend on-campus events, participate in an annual field trip, and—of course—celebrate together at our annual high school prom.
These experiences help create a sense of community while giving students the flexibility that drew them to MEWA in the first place.
In addition to our club and event offerings, MEWA students retain the opportunity to participate in sports and enrichment courses (such as band or choir) at a high school in their home district.
Preparing for the future
Graduation is just the beginning! Throughout high school, MEWA supports students as they explore their options and prepare for life after graduation.
Students can receive support with college applications, career exploration, trade and technical education, workforce preparation, and post-secondary planning. Students interested in getting a head start on college can also apply for our Early College program beginning in 10th grade, providing an opportunity to earn college credit while completing high school. MEWA is also proud to support students interested in earning their GED. Our GED program is available as an option for some students (ages 16-20) who, for various reasons, are unable to earn their high school diploma. For more information, click HERE.
Our goal isn't to put every student on the same path. It's to help each student understand their options, build the skills they need, and move confidently toward the future they've chosen.
