Christina Struyk-Bonn: Executive Director

Dr. Christina Struyk-Bonn has worked with MEWA since its inception in 2009. She has worked in many capacities within the organization from teacher to principal and currently, Executive Director. She completed her doctoral degree in education through the University of Oregon in the spring of 2018 and also has a Masters in Fine Arts from Portland State University. Education is her first love but she also writes young adult novels as well as nonfiction. Being part of the Metro East Web Academy has been a challenging, fulfilling, and exciting endeavor; she believes in what this school stands for and the opportunities it provides for students.

 

Natalie Stager: administrator on special assignment

Natalie Stager joined Metro East Web Academy as a high school English Language Arts teacher in 2018 after working at a traditional high school for five years. For the past few years, she has served as an administrator.

Natalie loves the MEWA community, and she is excited to work as an administrator on special assignment this year. When she is not working at MEWA, Natalie enjoys working with cheerleading teams around Oregon, which she has been involved with for the past 18 years. She also enjoys doing CrossFit and reading mystery thrillers. 

 

Rokaya Wehbey: Elementary Principal & K-12 Equity Coordinator

Rokaya Wehbey joined Metro East Web Academy in 2020 as an elementary teacher and has been working in education since 2013. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Pennsylvania State University, along with an Endorsement in English as a Second Language. In 2024, she completed her Master’s degree and Administrative License at the University of Oregon. Rokaya is a fluent Arabic speaker and has a passion for learning about the diverse backgrounds, stories, and traditions of MEWA’s students and families. Outside of school, she loves to spend time with her husband and their three daughters and go on family adventures. Rokaya also enjoys the beach, reading, coffee, and working on DIY projects! 

 

Marissa Queen: MIddle & high school interim principal, special education director

Marissa Queen joined Metro East Web Academy in September 2021 and is excited to transition into her new role as Associate Principal for Middle and High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Eastern Oregon University in 2014, a master’s in Special Education in 2019, and recently received her administrative license from George Fox University. Prior to MEWA, Marissa worked as a substitute teacher in the Gresham-Barlow school district. Outside of work, she enjoys camping and adventuring with her family.

 

Julie Norrander: Dean of Senior Students and Director of Program Management

Ms. Norrander joined MEWA in August 2012 as a math and science teacher and is currently the Director of Program Management. Prior to joining MEWA, she worked in rural Clackamas County teaching both of these subjects. Ms. Norrander holds degrees from Oregon State University: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Marketing; Pepperdine University: Master of Business Administration; and Concordia University: Master of Arts, Education. In her spare time, Ms. Norrander enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, biking, traveling, and spending time with her family and pets.

Scott Halley:  Facilities Supervisor/ Technology Director

Scott comes to MEWA from the Gresham/Barlow School District with over 16 years of technology support experience. With Scott's bachelors degree in Business Administration from Concordia University, he brings a unique combination of technology and business skills. Scott is also the assistant head track and field coach at Gresham high school as well as a competitive javelin thrower, with state, national and world titles in the event.

 

Counselors

Brian Baker: GED Counselor & coordinator, 504 plan case manager

Brian worked for MEWA from 2012 to 2017, left to become the school counselor at Hogan Cedars Elementary and is happy to be back working with MEWA's amazing staff and students!  He attended the University of Oregon to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and went on to earn his Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College in Portland.  Before becoming a school counselor Brian was a Peace Corps volunteer with his wife in the South American country of Ecuador. 

When not working with MEWA students and families Brian is a professional Celtic and rock and roll guitarist in the Portland area. He loves traveling, music, art, dorky comedy movies and spending time with his wife and 3 children.

 

Courtney Conachan: Counselor

Courtney Conachan joined MEWA as a counseling intern, in the spring of 2021. She was born and raised in Portland, OR and received her bachelor’s degree at Portland State University, majoring in Liberal Studies and Social Sciences. Courtney is currently finishing her Master’s of Education in School Counseling at Lewis & Clark College.

Prior to working in education, Courtney spent many years in healthcare and volunteering at local non-profits supporting the arts and refugee and immigrant communities. During her free time, Courtney enjoys spending time outdoors (especially the Oregon coast) with her family and friends, reading, and doing anything arts and crafty.

 

Denielle (Deni) Greene: Counselor

Deni joined Metro East Web Academy in the fall of 2012.  She was born and raised in Beaverton, and was a School Counselor in the Beaverton School District prior to joining MEWA. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from San Diego State University, and a Masters Degree from Sacramento State University in Counseling Education, with an emphasis in both Marriage and Family Therapy and School Counseling. MEWA has been a second home to her for many years and she takes deep pride in helping students reach their goals. When she is not at MEWA, she enjoys baking, photography, the outdoors, and time with her husband, and her three furbabies, Max, Raven, and Charlie.

 

Eric strid: Counselor

Eric Strid (he/him) has been a school counselor since 2015, and joined MEWA in August of 2017. He received his Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Studies in 2011, and his Master's degree in School Counseling in 2015, both from Montana State University. He is currently working toward his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Adams State University, and expects to finish that program in 2025.

When not at school Eric enjoys standup comedy, trivia, axe throwing, games of all kinds, and spending time with his wife, son, dog, friends, and family.

 

Amy Swank: Early College Counselor

Amy Swank joined the Web Academy in August of 2017. She received her bachelor’s at Marylhurst University, majoring Human Communications and her Master’s in Education, majoring in school counseling from Lewis and Clark. Prior to working in education, Amy was a part time Realtor and volunteer. In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time with her family and friends outdoors.

 

Elementary Teachers

Lauren Giger: RtI Coordinator

Lauren joined MEWA in the Spring of 2019 as an Elementary Teacher. She received her bachelor’s degree from PSU, Master of Arts in Teaching from Concordia University and is working on her M.Ed. (with a dyslexia concentration) at EOU. Lauren has also expanded her knowledge of reading pedagogy by studying Orton Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, and LETRS. You can find her reading peer-reviewed articles about reading development during her spare time. She strongly believes in bridging the gap between the research on reading development and classroom practices. She also enjoys vegan cooking, traveling, and spending time with her husband and two cats.

 

Ami Bell: Elementary Teacher

Ami Bell joined Metro East Web Academy in September of 2020 as part of the elementary teaching team. Ami received her bachelor’s at University of Oregon, with a degree in theater arts. Ami then continued her education at Portland State University, receiving a masters in education as part of an integrated arts cohort. Outside of work, Ami likes to spend her time with her son, crafting, and enjoying the beautiful outdoors.

 

Brittany DeMartino

Brittany DeMartino joined Metro East Web Academy in August 2020. In June 2019, she received her Masters in Education from Portland State University. Before joining MEWA, Mrs. DeMartino taught throughout the Portland metro area as a substitute teacher. Outside of work, she likes to spend time with her family camping and exploring the outdoors.

 

Mikayla Lamb

Mikayla joined MEWA fall 2021 and is currently teaching Kindergarten and Fifth grade. Before working at MEWA Mikayla taught at Peake Academy where she also taught Kindergarten. Mikayla graduated from Washington State University (Go Cougs) with a bachelors in education. In her free time Mikayla likes to hike and go to Portland's best burger spots. Mikayla and her husband are currently on the hunt for Portland's best burger!

 

Margaret McGovern: k-8 art & 4-8 reading support teacher

Margaret joined MEWA in 2020 but has been working in education for 20 years. She has taught all ages, from preschool through high school, and has worked with adult college students. Before coming to MEWA she was employed with another online charter school for nine years and worked as a reading specialist at various schools in the Portland area. In her spare time, Margaret spends time with her family and two dogs.

 

Carley Strid: Elementary teacher/ testing coordinator

Carley Strid (or Ms. Carley) has been a teacher since 2011, and a teacher at MEWA since we began the elementary program in 2018 as the K-3rd grade teacher. She is teaching Kindergarten this year, as well as facilitating and coordinating school-wide assessments. She is also a cross country coach at Corbett High School.

When she isn't teaching, she enjoys running, eating, doing trivia, and hanging out with her friends, family, husband, son, and dog.

 

Faith Valdez: 4th Grade Math & Science, 3-5 Math Support, Elementary Tech

Miss Faith has been teaching in the Elementary program at MEWA for 4 years.  She received her bachelor’s degree at Cal State University of Bakersfield and graduated from Portland State University with her Masters in Education.

This year, she is teaching 4th Grade Math and Science, Technology and Math support teacher for grades 3-5.  She loves teaching because of the opportunity to empower students to be confident, capable, life-long learners. When she’s not in the classroom, she likes to travel, do yoga, crochet and play video games.

 

ESOL and SEL

Josie Minni: Esol teacher and program director/ SEL Coordinator

Ms. Minni joined MEWA in 2021. With over 20 years experience as an educator, Ms. Minni's journey has seen her teaching every grade and delving into nearly every subject. She is a lifelong learner and has earned her Master’s degree in Education as well as additional endorsements in Reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). She is passionate about teaching with compassion, enthusiasm, and a student-tailored approach.

Ms. Minni continues to pursue her own learning in order to best meet the individual needs of all her students. She loves learning new things and hopes to inspire students to fall in love with learning too.  In her free time, Ms. Minni enjoys being with her family, hiking, music, practicing yoga, and going to new places.

 

Middle/ High School Teachers

Toyoko Becker: Math Teacher

Toyoko started working at MEWA as a math tutor at MEWA before going on to become a full time math teacher. She graduated from Portland State University with a double major in Mathematics and Japanese.

She was born in Tokyo Japan and loves to travel. She hopes to see the world.

 

Christeen Calhoun: CURRICULUM DIRECTOR, Instructional Coach & Teacher
Subjects: English/Language Arts, Health and electives.  

Christeen has been with MEWA since its inception in 2009-2010 and is an advocate for alternative education. She received her BA from the University of Oregon, and then completed her Masters in Teaching at the University of Portland, and her Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction at Western Governer's University. At MEWA, Christeen works to onboard and support new staff as an instructional coach, leads curriculum development and implementation, and continues to teach a few high school courses.

 

Orly Cowin

Orly started at Metro East Web Academy in 2018. She teaches 6th grade in MEWA's elementary program. Before joining MEWA, Orly worked as a substitute teacher at PPS and east county schools. She received her B.A. in English and her Master's of Education at Portland State University. When not inspiring young minds, Orly spends her time with her husband and two young children, baking, writing and hogging the microphone at any karaoke party.

Sarah joined the MEWA team in 2025 and currently teaches middle school social studies. She attended Northwest University and Bushnell University where she earned her teaching license and endorsements in English and social studies. This is her seventh year teaching and has been mostly working in alternative and online education. 

When Sarah isn’t teaching, she’s probably chasing her two kiddos around, running with her dogs, or coaching volleyball. 

Steven Ellsberg: Health Teacher

Steven Ellsberg has a diverse professional background and an extensive educational history. He earned his degrees from Clatsop Community College, the University of Oregon, and Oregon Health and Science University. Steven's career spans several fields: he spent a decade as a high school history teacher at MEWA, worked as a prison guard, and a deckhand on driftnet boats in Bristol Bay. He also currently works as a nurse assistant instructor at Clackamas Community College and is a Registered Nurse on the Endoscopy/Surgical Services Floor at Providence Milwaukie. Steven's passion for traveling enriches his life outside of work. Each summer, he dedicates his time as a volunteer coordinator for emergency services at Burning Man, blending his professional skills with his enthusiasm for community service and adventure.

 

Kevin Hadsell

Subjects: English & Social studies

Mr. Hadsell teaches English, Social Studies, and the dual credit writing courses for the early college program through MHCC. He also co-sponsors the MEWA Music Club with Mr. Ling, which meets every Wednesday at 3:00pm to discuss all things music related, and to use recording software to get into all sorts of music-related shenanigans. Mr. Hadsell graduated with a degree in English Education from Illinois State University in 2007 and received his Master's degree in English Studies from Portland State University in 2017. He has taught at MEWA since the spring of 2018. In his spare time, Mr. Hadsell likes hiking, writing, recording his own music under the name The Kevin Hadsell Experience (he is currently working on his 12th home-made solo album), and reading books. Mr. Hadsell also wants you to register to vote if you are of age.

 

Mindy Hardwick

Mindy joined Metro East Web Academy in February of 2020 and teaches in the GED and Early College Programs. Mindy's teaching experience including: teaching middle school, alternative high school and facilitating a writing workshop with teens in a juvenile detention in the Seattle area. Mindy is a published author and her books include three middle grade novels, a memoir and two young adult novels. She received her bachelor’s at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY majoring in creative writing and attended Seattle Pacific University to earn her teaching license. Mindy has an M.ED in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in the Creative Arts from Lesley University and an M.F.A in Writing for Children and Young People from Vermont College. When she is not teaching, Mindy likes to spend time walking on the Oregon Coast with her cocker spaniel, Stormy, art journaling and volunteering with the Haystack Rock Awareness Program.

 

Lauryn Saling: Middle School Teacher

Lauryn (Hartung) Saling joined MEWA in 2022. She teaches 7th and 8th grade Language Arts, as well as several other middle school electives. She is a member of MEWA's Leadership Club and loves planning and participating in school events with students. When she is not at school, Mrs. Saling likes to swim, golf, enjoy her daily game of Wordle with a coffee, walk her pug, and play trivia. 

 

Kayla Kero: Health and CTE

Kayla Kero joined MEWA in 2022. She graduated from Oregon State University (Go Beavs!) in 2020 with a Bachelor's in Education with the option of Family and Consumer Sciences and a Bachelor's in Public Health Promotion and Health Behaviors. She has a Master's of Physical Education from the University of Arkansas.

Ms. Kero loves to travel during the summers and breaks! In her free time, she loves baking new desserts and is starting her sourdough journey. Her favorite things are reading, playing with her dog Lily, and going to the river!

 

Leah Madoff: Teacher

Subjects: Science and Math

Ms. Madoff began teaching at MEWA in the 2020-21 school year. She teaches High School Physical Science, Algebra 1, GED Science and is a 9th Grade mentor teacher. Ms. Madoff loves online teaching and appreciates working with MEWA's amazing students, families and staff. She grew up outside Chicago and has been teaching for over 20 years in New York and Oregon. In her professional life, she is passionate about science, health, math, the environment and alternative education. She is an avid hiker and backpacker and spends much of her free time enjoying the outdoors with her dog, Sunny. She spends her summers leading backpacking trips for the Sierra Club. Leah also loves to garden, bake, swim, read, run, paddle and paint furniture.

 

MANUEL MARTINEZ: Social Science Instructor/Student Leadership Advisor/Instructional Coach

Mr. Martinez served 27 years in the military before beginning his career in education. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Eastern Oregon University and his Master of Arts in Teaching from Warner Pacific University. With ten years of teaching experience, he now teaches Social Science in our high school program, serves as the lead advisor for the Student Leadership Program, and as an Instructional Coach support other teacher and staff in their growth and success.

Mr. Martinez and his wife have started living bi-coastal splitting time between their hobby farm in Beavercreek, Oregon and their home in Kissimmee, Florida. While in Oregon, they tend to their hobby farm. When in Florida, they enjoy boating, kayaking, beach time, and walking through the Disney parks with family and friends.

 

Anne Mattson: Teacher

Subjects: Science

Anne Mattson is a second career teacher, who started at MEWA in the Fall of 2021. She spent nearly 10 years as a Doctor of Optometry. She is originally from NW Indiana, near Chicago (go Bears!). After attending Purdue University, she moved to Oregon to complete her Bachelor of Science in Visual Science and Doctor of Optometry Degrees at Pacific University. After raising twin girls, she returned to school to complete her Master's in Education at Grand Canyon University, while substitute teaching. Anne lives with her daughters and enjoys spending time with her family, live music, reading and traveling.

 

Jill Miller: Language Arts

Jill Miller joined Metro East Web Academy in 2023 as a high school Language Arts teacher.  Prior to MEWA, she supervised student teachers working to earn their MATs through Lewis and Clark College, taught high school Language Arts in the Sherwood School District, and middle school Language Arts in the Salem-Keizer School District.  She earned her BA in English and Anthropology from Willamette University and her MAT from Southern Oregon University.  In her free time, Jill enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons and going on adventures with them.    

 

Nicole O’Neill: High School ELA and SS

Nicole O'Neill joined MEWA in Fall 2022. She taught English 12 and social studies at Oregon Charter Academy for 11 years before joining Metro East. She earned her Master's in teaching from Southern Oregon University and her Master's in history from American Public University. She lives with her husband and three boys in Sandy where she can usually be found outside in the rain or feeding her neighbor's chickens.

 

Elaine Powell-Ascroft:  Teacher
Subjects:  Art, Middle Social Studies, and Language Arts

Elaine joined Metro East Web Academy in 2013, but has been an educator for almost two decades. Along with teaching at MEWA, she teaches as adjunct faculty at the University of Portland in the Performing and Fine Arts department. Elaine is also an active artist in the community. Her MFA is in painting, but a lot of her art work is interdisciplinary and interactive focusing on the creative process and collaboration.

 

Dustin Rose: Social Studies

Dustin Rose received his bachelor’s degree from Portland State University and his Master’s in Political Science from American Public University. Prior to working at MEWA, Dustin was a music teacher for 8 years at a local middle school.

In his free time, Dustin enjoys spending time with his family and playing music.

 

Chad Rush: PE, personal finance

Chad joined MEWA in the Fall of 2022. He has been in education for over 20 years, serving as a Health & PE teacher, Athletic Director and Principal at Portland Lutheran School and the school Principal at Western Mennonite School. He holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Concordia University and a Bachelor's degree in International Business from Concordia College.

Chad currently lives in Sisters, OR where he is a high school volleyball official and the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Sisters HS.

 

Bryce Saling: Teacher

I have been at MEWA for the past two years teaching math and social studies. I really enjoy teaching these subjects and have been doing so since I graduated from Oregon State University in 2014. I also have been coaching JV2 basketball at Barlow high school since 2017. In my spare time I enjoy working out, playing basketball, watching TV and relaxing

Alanna Sousa: English & Health Sciences Teacher, High School RTI Coordinator

Alanna has her Master's in Teaching from Concordia University Portland and her Bachelors in English from Washington State University Vancouver. Alanna joined MEWA in the Summer of 2018. Alanna teaches Language Arts and Social Studies. In her free time, Alanna enjoys reading, camping, live music, and snacking.

 

ROSAMOND STEWART

Rosamond Stewart graduated from University of New Mexico with a bachelors in statistics in 2007, and in 2008 completed a secondary math teacher internship program. In 2019, she completed a masters program in instructional design. She has taught in public brick and mortar schools, a small private school for students with autism, and other online schools. 2024 is her first year teaching at MEWA. She loves to be outdoors, and spends much of the summer hiking and camping. She has goats and chickens, and is learning homesteading skills. Rosamond believes that everyone can learn math, and works to create lessons that are conceptual, collaborative, and relevant to students.

 

Kieffer Tarbell: Science

Kieffer Tarbell is a second career teacher. He spent 18 years as a chemist in the coatings and polymers industry. Currently in his 18th year of teaching, he is passionate about science and education. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Science and Master's in Teaching.

When Mr. Tarbell is not in the classroom, he can be found on the mountain, skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer. He has five granddaughters who love to bike and ski with their Pappy.

 

Patrick Wagstaff: Math Teacher (MS - HS)

Patrick joined MEWA in August 2022. He’s worked for a railroad, trained to be a pilot, dealt craps and roulette in casinos, made sculpted cakes as a pastry chef, and taught English and baking in Vietnam.

Now he teaches middle and high school math, GED Math, and dual credit math courses for the early college program through MHCC. He holds two master's degrees from Western Governors University in Elementary and Secondary Math Education.

When he’s not teaching, he enjoys learning new things, tinkering on a host of unfinished projects, making ice cream, visiting the dog park with his wife and two dogs, and just being lazy with a good book in his regular-sized house.

 

Katherine Watkins: High School English Teacher

Katherine Watkins joined Metro East Web Academy as a high school English teacher in 2025, bringing with her 26 years of experience in the classroom. A dedicated and innovative educator, she is passionate about creating engaging, student-centered learning experiences that inspire critical thinking, creativity, and self-expression. With a deep understanding of both traditional and online education, Katherine prioritizes meaningful connections with students, ensuring they feel seen, heard, and supported in their academic journey.

Beyond teaching, Katherine is a writer and facilitator who specializes in helping individuals navigate personal and professional transitions. She is also committed to supporting neurodivergent learners, fostering inclusive spaces, and exploring the intersection of identity, storytelling, and empowerment. When she’s not teaching, she enjoys reading, writing, and developing community-based educational initiatives.

 

Tyan Wyss-Lockner: Reading Intervention MS/HS

Tyan Wyss-Lockner joined Metro East Web Academy in August of 2022. Ms. Wyss has taught grades 4-12 and lived overseas for 20+ years in Saudi Arabia, Russia, South Africa, Hungary, and South Korea. She taught 7th grade Humanities at Oregon Charter Academy for five years before coming to MEWA. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, watching classic movies, and writing. Ms. Wyss can always be found with a novel handy and is thoroughly delighted that MEWA is situated right next door to the Public Library! She is excited to help students achieve their reading and comprehension goals!

 

Student Success Team

Simone Ballard: Student success coordinator

Simone Ballard has been with MEWA since September of 2020. She is passionate about the health and wellness of the youth in our community. Simone has extensive experience with mentoring, tutoring, and coaching student athletes. She has a degree in criminology and criminal justice, as well as certificates in behavioral analysis. Understanding why we do what we do is a driving force for her. She desires to instill joy, passion, and self-fulfilling direction in our students’ lives. In her spare time, Simone is an avid soccer player, and loves woodworking and being outside as much as possible! She has spent many years in construction and remodeling, and likes to spend her summers building decks, fences, and other projects.

 

Angelina Allen: 6th & 7th grade

Angelina graduated from Sam Barlow High School in 2017 and graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in Forensic Psychology. Angelina has unique experience in jail services, criminal justice and law, forensic sciences and lab, case management and abnormal and social psychology. She spent the last several years working in mental health and human services, working one-on-one with the homeless community and individuals with various physical and mental health challenges. She is passionate about meeting people where they are at, providing them a listening ear, identifying their needs and accommodating barriers so they can have success in life. She is incredibly honored to now be a support to students at MEWA. Outside of work, she is soaking up time with her daughter, husband and dog, working in their backyard veggie garden, creating art, hiking local trails, camping and exploring national parks all over the US.

Helen Bessarab: 12th grade / slavic community liaison

Helen Bessarab joined Metro East Web Academy in November of 2017. In the past, Helen has served on PTA's at her kids' schools and managed traveling soccer teams for Eastside Timbers Club. Helen graduated from Western Business College where she received her degrees. Working with students, parents/guardians and seeing people succeed is one of her greatest passions in life. She is a fierce advocate and loves to help anyone that is in need. Family is everything to Helen. She loves to spend her spare time with her husband and kids at sporting events, camping, or in her home garden. Helen is a social being who finds joy in hosting parties/events, feeding her loved ones, and spending intentional time with them.

Meg Geyer: 10th grade

Meg started with MEWA in August of 2023. She has spent several years working with youth in her community and is very passionate about serving the next generation. Meg loves playing piano, guitar, and hiking in the beautiful PNW!

 

Audrey Olcott: 8th & 9th grade

Joining MEWA in 2024, Audrey is excited to bring all of her passions in communications, and working with youth to one place through supporting MEWA’s students. Her husband, and three busy children are her entire world! When Audrey is not at work she is running her kids around, spending time with family, at the Ballpark, or training athletes at Cascade Athletic Club.

 

Manuel (Manny) Osuna: 12th grade & spanish liaison

Manny joined MEWA in 2019. His greatest passion is to serve our Latino community by being their voice and breaking the language barriers.

His hobby is being a Health Care Spanish Certified Interpreter & he also likes to dance and spend time with his family.

Being a Latino Liaison at MEWA means the world to him knowing that he has a purpose in life!

Kelley Ostgarden

Kelley joined MEWA in August of 2020.  Kelley worked in the medical field as an Ophthalmic Technician for several years before becoming an in- home childcare provider.  In her free time, Kelley enjoys spending time camping, boating and traveling with friends and family.

 

Corban Woosley

Corban graduated from MEWA in 2015 and joined the MEWA team in August of 2023. He grew up serving his community, and is passionate about helping others find success and fulfillment in their own lives. In his spare time Corban enjoys reading and spending time with his two corgi children.

 

Technology & Facilities

 

Shelley Williamson: Custodian

Shelley joined MEWA in the fall of 2016. She worked at Providence Portland Hospital for 15 years before working with school districts. Her variety of skills and experiences have been invaluable to Metro East Web Academy.  In her spare time she loves spending time at the beach, four daughters, two grandsons and attending concerts.

 

Lauren McDevitt: Technology Assistant

Lauren joined MEWA in the Fall of 2018. She graduated Mt. Hood Community College with an AAS in Cyber Security and Networking, and is soon continuing her bachelors of Cyber Security at Mt. Hood Community College. Outside of MEWA, Lauren loves spending time with her friends and family, trying new foods and cuisines, creating art, spending time outdoors and collecting various house plants, and playing video games with friends.

 

Administrative Support

RACHEL JOHNSON: COUNSELING SECRETARY/EARLY COLLEGE REGISTRAR

Rachel has been a valued member of the MEWA team since 2011. She is responsible for reaching out to applicants to assist with the application process. Additionally, she collaborates closely with the Early College program and the counseling staff. In her personal time, Rachel enjoys engaging in activities with her grandchildren, as well as reading and cross-stitching.

 

LISA HIRSCHMUGL: OUTREACH COORDINATOR AND ASSISTANT TO THE EARLY COLLEGE COUNSELOR

Lisa grew up in Bend and moved to Portland in 1991. She started working with MEWA in January 2017. She is the Outreach Coordinator and Assistant to the Early College Counselor. Both of her children graduated from the Early College Program (2015 & 2018). She enjoys traveling, going to concerts and spending time with her family.

 

ELLE MARLETT: OFFICE STAFF

Elle Marlett joined the web academy in the Fall of 2020. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Art and Technology with a minor in Business from the University of Oregon in 2019. When she isn’t working at the front desk she is putting her creativity to use by making personal art, working on commissions, or coaching the Reynolds High School Dance Team. Any free time she has is spent with friends and family, either playing games, watching movies, or binging shows together. She also loves spoiling her two cats and is known to her friends as a ‘cat lady’ in her twenties.

Michelle has two impossibly amazing sons that both happened to graduate from Metro East Web Academy.

When she is not at work here at MEWA you can find her teaching Aqua Aerobics to Seniors, on a trip to the next adventure with her partner, laughing at a good comedy show or exploring universes and multiverses with Tony Stark, Spiderman, Princess Leia and more.

Kinhly Mai: office staff

Kinhly joined MEWA at the beginning of 2023. Prior to joining, she graduated early from MEWA’s dual credit program in 2021 and completed her AAOT with an interest in Women's, Gender, and Sexualities studies at Portland Community College in the summer of 2024. Now, she hopes to continue her education at Portland State University. Besides school, her personal life consists of hiking, poetry, photography, and an occasional financial book club with her own family.

 

DANI GERGEN: assistant to the executive director

Dani joined MEWA in early 2025. She is a mom of 5 (4 of whom have attended MEWA!) and is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Neuroscience from Portland State University. She is a Certified Personal Trainer, and is passionate about coaching girls and women through their fitness and strength training journeys. In her spare time, she loves to read fantasy-fiction, snuggle her cats (Severus, Ronald Weasley, and Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans), watch women’s sports, and go on adventures with her wife and daughters.

 

Taylor Gray: Data Analyst

Taylor joined MEWA in the spring of 2022. He has a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix. Taylor loves the flexibility of working from home. He has two amazing daughters, a beautiful wife, a dog, and a whole mess of chickens. In Taylor’s spare time, he loves to go camping, read books, go on walks, and play with his kids.

 

Marlena Nunley : Registrar

Mar grew up in Portland and started working at MEWA in January of 2017.  She comes to MEWA with a vast background in office support including human resources, office management and accounting.  Mar was the Head Dance Coach at Reynolds High School for over 10 years.  In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and being awesome and better than Scott.
