Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our week runs the same as any other brick & mortar school! School days are Monday through Friday unless otherwise specified due to a holiday or other occasion.

Hours of instruction vary from grade to grade and student to student, but each student can expect two forms of instruction:

    • Synchronous Live Classes: There will be approximately one live session per subject area per week. These will be the same days and times each week and usually run for one hour.

    • Asynchronous Online Lessons: These will be structured lessons through our online platform and they are up to the student to complete on time. Students are expected to complete all assignments on their calendar each day, whether they have a Live Class or not!

Because of the online nature of our school and the flexibility needed from many of our students and families, we accept work at any time of day. We recommend developing a daily structure that works best for your student and family!

For more information about each of our specific programs, visit “The MEWA Experience” tab in the dropdown toolbar.

  • Students are able to come on campus during Support Labs from 12PM-2PM, Monday through Thursday! During these hours, they can work independently or get help from the teachers on staff. If they would like to come on campus during hours outside of that time, they can do so upon making an appointment with a teacher or a member of the Student Success team.

Other opportunities to come on campus include weekly & monthly clubs such as Shark Friendz’y Social Club, Gender, Sexuality, & Allies, Elementary Craft Day, Anxiety/Stress Support Group, Middle School PE Club, Book Club, and more!

  • ‍ Because we are a fully online school, MEWA offers much more flexibility for our students and families than a traditional in-person experience. Apart from scheduled, synchronous Live Classes, most work can be completed from anywhere, at whatever time of day aligns best with your student’s needs.

‍ ‍ It’s important to note that with this flexibility comes more responsibility! Our most successful students and families hold the torch to their education by creating a consistent schedule for themselves, communicating well, and being good self-advocates. Even though we don’t see every student every day, our MEWA staff is dedicated to the success of each individual, and has the ability to meet a wide range of students where they need them most.

  • At MEWA, we offer Chromebook checkouts to all students. We also offer hotspot checkouts for students struggling with internet access.

Please note that students under 18 will need to have an adult with them in order to check out a computer. There is a $100 deposit required to check out a computer. Financial accommodations are made for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

  • In order to enroll at MEWA you must be a K-12 student and currently living in Oregon.

  • No! We are a state funded public charter school. We do not charge any tuition. It’s completely free to attend!

  • Yes! While attending MEWA, all students are permitted to participate in sports within their home school district. Usually, your home school requires a form to be signed by one of our Administrators to confirm enrollment. Check with your home school for their specific protocol.
