Our GED Program
Metro East Web Academy is proud to support students who are interested in earning their GED!
MEWA’s GED program is available as an option for some students who, for various reasons, are unable to earn their high school diploma.
HOW IT WORKS
Our program is computer based and uses fully online classes. Students work asynchronously (independently) in their classes and submit assignments to gain the knowledge needed to pass the GED tests. Classes and assignments are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, making this a convenient program for students who are working or have other responsibilities outside of school.
If a student needs help with a subject, teachers are available during online or on-site lab times Monday through Thursday. Students can also schedule online meetings with GED teachers to get help. Every GED student has a staff mentor who guides them through the GED process and has weekly text or email contact with them.
Earning a GED opens up job and educational opportunities!
Students who earn their GED or high school diploma can qualify for the Oregon Promise Grant to pay for enrollment at an Oregon community college. A GED or high school diploma is also the first step for entering a trade apprenticeship or job training program. These training programs help people learn skills that lead to good paying jobs with benefits.
Frequently Asked Questions
How old do I have to be to enroll in MEWA’s GED program?
In 2024, MEWA’s GED program became a State of Oregon Option Program, allowing 16 and 17 year old students to pursue their GEDs with parent or guardian approval. MEWA’s GED program enrolls students who are 16 to 20 years of age.
How long will it take me to earn my GED?
To earn your GED, you need to pass a subject area test in each of the following areas: Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Math. How quickly you earn your GED will depend on how much you already know in each of those four areas and how much time you spend studying and completing assignments in your GED classes. Some students finish in a month or two, others take longer. Students are expected to complete their GED within 12 months of joining the program.
What kind of identification do I need to take the GED tests?
All students who take the GED tests must have a government issued photo ID. These include: State Identification Card, Driver’s Permit, Driver’s License, Tribal Card, Military ID, Green Card or Passport. The ID cannot be expired. In addition, 16 and 17 year-old students need a signed form from a parent or guardian.
Can I join MEWA’s GED program if I have an IEP (Special Education) or 504 plan?
Yes! However, students with an IEP or 504 plan must attend a placement meeting before enrollment to determine if MEWA’s GED program is the right fit.
