Middle School Program

For many students, middle school is a time of big changes—academically, socially, and personally. At Metro East Web Academy, we believe that every student deserves a school environment where they feel safe, supported, and able to focus on learning. We offer students in grades 6–8 the flexibility to learn in a way that works for them, while still having the structure and support they need to stay engaged and successful. Whatever brings your student to MEWA, our goal is the same: to support students in building the confidence and skills they need to keep moving forward.

At MEWA, there isn't just one way to be a successful student. There's room to find the way that works for you.

Learning that provides structure & flexibility

Our middle school program combines independent online learning with live instruction for a balance of both flexibility and accountability.

Each week, students participate in one live, virtual lesson for each of their core subjects, giving them the opportunity to learn directly with their teachers and classmates. Outside of live lessons, students complete daily assignments independently, allowing them to work through their coursework with greater flexibility.

Students aren't expected to navigate that independence alone. Teachers are available to provide guidance, answer questions, and help students stay on track. Students can also take advantage of our virtual and on-campus Support Labs, offered Monday through Thursday from 12–2 p.m., for additional assignment help and one-on-one support.

This balance gives students room to learn independently while providing the accountability and connection that help them succeed.

Support That Goes Beyond the Classroom

At MEWA, we know that academic success is connected to how students are doing as a whole. That's why every student in grades 6–12 participates in a weekly MEWA Success class.

MEWA Success lessons help students develop skills they'll use both in school and beyond, including organization, time management, self-advocacy, practical life skills, and social-emotional learning. Our school counselors are an important part of this experience, helping students build confidence, resilience, healthy relationships, and the skills they need to navigate life’s challenges.

Students in need also have an additional layer of support through our Student Success Team. Each grade level has a dedicated Student Success team member whose role is to connect with students that feel disengaged or could use a little extra support. Members of our Student Success Team meet with students regularly to provide extra assignment support, help them get organized, or simply provide a compassionate connection point between the student and their education.

Sometimes, having someone who notices when things aren't going well—and takes the time to help—can make all the difference.

Fostering Connections

MEWA offers a variety of ways for middle school students to connect with their peers and become part of the school community.

CLUBS

Students can participate in clubs such as Chess Club, Middle School PE Club, Book Club, Music Producers Club, Social Club, and Leadership Club, along with other opportunities throughout the year. Social Club is available both in person and online, giving students more than one way to connect.

EVENTS

Students can also participate in on-campus events and our annual school-wide field trip. These experiences give students opportunities to build friendships, explore shared interests, and enjoy being part of a community.
